FAQ's: RIB Single Swivels
Do you have any operating tips for the RIB single swivels?
Yes! Here are a few operating tips..
1. Do not throw your seat around in one forceful motion - treat it gently or the sudden stop when you reach the forward locking position can shear off the release latch.
2. Your seat has plastic trim all around which will force you to pump up the seat to rotate it. You will also need to slide the seat forwards and back on its rails in order to get it past the steering wheel and door posts on its way round.
3. To avoid scratching your handbrake plastic trim, don't sit on the seat while you rotate it and press down on the handbrake plastic if necessary to keep it clear of the rotating swivel plate.
4. Your seat will feel less firmly attached than it did originally and you will be able to rock it a little but it should not rattle if you have all the bolts in the right places and with the correct orientation.
5. If you tend to sit with the seat pumped down low you will probably need to cut off some of the seat trim plastic to allow the orange lever to move freely.
6. Occasionally we find that the original VW bolts incorporate captive washers - these make the bolts sit higher than normal - and can lead to the bolts 'knocking' together as you rotate the seat. If this is the case with your seat you will need to replace 2 of the original VW bolts with dome headed 25mm M8 bolts. These are lower profile and will not cause an obstruction when you rotate the seat.
My single seat swivel is very tight, why I cant spin it?
The single swivels sometimes are almost impossible to rotate when you receive them. Don't panic !
It's just because the grease that has been applied inside the mechanism is causing a bit of suction where a movement limiter and a bracket are coming into contact. You'll find that if you bolt the swivel down to your seat base, so that you have a solid object to pull against, you'll most likely be able to get enough leverage on it to make the thing start turning. Failing that, when you attach the seat on to the top you will definitely be able to rotate it - its just a question of using the seat as a giant lever...
After the first time you'll find its all much easier, as the grease seal has been 'broken'.
My swivel is rattling, what can i do?
First off - it's no problem if you want to send them back, we'll do a full refund for you no problem.
However there are 2 things we can suggest as far as the rattle goes:
1. Check they are installed correctly (are both the red levers in the centre of the van and pointing up in the air? If they are then you have them installed properly.)
2. Check the rattle is not coming from your seat mechanism itself. Rob (the owner) once had a rattle that came from under his seat and it turned out to be the lever you pull to slide the seat back and forth. It only started to do the rattle after he fitted the swivels, no idea why it did it but he fixed it with a bit of electrical tape on the piece of the lever that was rattling. Worth checking anyway!!
Assuming those don't help I guess the swivels must be faulty so please do send them back. We'll do you a full refund and then you are free to either order up replacements or try another make of swivel if you prefer.
